Safe and Sustainable Wastewater Treatment Solutions with Open Channel UV Disinfection Systems
Disinfection in wastewater treatment processes plays a critical role in ensuring effluent quality. In this context, Open Channel UV Disinfection Systems stand out in sustainable water management applications by providing an effective solution without the need for chemicals.
Open Channel UV Systems prevent microorganisms from reproducing through lamps that emit ultraviolet light at a wavelength of 253.7 nm. This reduces the bacterial load in treated wastewater and brings the effluent to a level that meets the relevant discharge and quality standards. By eliminating the need for chemicals, this technology offers significant advantages in terms of operational safety, low operating costs and environmental sustainability.
The systems consist of a UV disinfection frame, electronic ballast, remote automatic control system, automatic cleaning system, water level control system and auxiliary equipment. Low-pressure, high-intensity amalgam UV lamps provide high efficiency and a long service life, while the automatic cleaning system supports operational continuity.
Open Channel UV Disinfection Systems provide easy installation and reduce the need for additional structures thanks to their design suitable for open-channel applications. With these features, they are widely preferred in wastewater treatment plants.
As an example of the on-site applications of this technology, the acceptance process for the open channel UV disinfection system installed at Birecik Wastewater Treatment Plant, featuring 80 lamps with a power of 320 Watts each, has been successfully completed. Following the technical evaluations carried out by İller Bankası (ILBANK), the system’s compliance with the project criteria and technical specifications was confirmed, and its performance was found to meet expectations.
As part of another application at Suruç Wastewater Treatment Plant, an open channel UV disinfection system featuring 96 lamps with a power of 320 Watts each was delivered to the site. The installed system is expected to contribute to the effective disinfection of treated wastewater and support the sustainable maintenance of effluent quality.
